The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 (models ZB631KL and ZB630KL, codename X01BD) was a very popular mid-range phone. However, many users have reported significant software issues, especially after updating. The most common complaints include severe "ghost touch" (phantom screen inputs), extreme lag, random reboots, fast battery drain, and Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection drops. In more severe cases, a failed Over-The-Air (OTA) update can hard-brick the phone, leaving it stuck in a bootloop or dead. Flashing an official stock firmware is the most reliable way to fix these software bugs, unbrick a stuck device, and restore it to a clean, factory condition.

‼️ CRITICAL WARNING: RECOVERY ZIP vs. RAW/QFIL ROM ‼️
  • Method Difference: The files below are for the same phone, but for two different flashing methods. They are NOT interchangeable. Using the wrong file or method will fail or brick your device.
  • Recovery ZIPs (...user.zip / ...OTA.zip): These are standard packages. They are flashed via the phone's stock recovery (SD Card method). Use this for standard updates or fixing a phone that can still boot to recovery. (Method 1 below).
  • RAW / QFIL / QPST Packages: These are advanced unbrick packages for a PC. They are flashed using the QFIL tool while the phone is in EDL (9008) mode. Use this to save a dead or hard-bricked phone. (Method 2 below).

✅ The Requirements​

You will need different tools depending on the method.

For Method 1 (Recovery ZIP):​

  • Storage: A formatted Micro SD card (FAT32).
  • Backup: A full backup of your personal data.
  • Charge: Your phone charged to at least 50%.

For Method 2 (QFIL / RAW / QPST):​

  • PC/Tools: A Windows PC.
  • Cable: A reliable Micro USB cable.
  • Drivers: Qualcomm QDLoader 9008 drivers installed on your PC.
  • Software: The QFIL tool (as part of QPST).

➡️ How to Flash the Firmware​

Please choose the method that matches the file you downloaded.

Method 1: Using Stock Recovery (for ...user.zip / OTA.zip files)​

Use this method for all files listed in Section 1.
  1. Step 1: Download the correct .zip file for your region (e.g.,
    Code:

    ). Do not extract it.
  2. Step 2: Copy the downloaded .zip file to the root directory (the main folder, not inside any other folder) of your Micro SD card.
  3. Step 3: Power off your ZenFone Max Pro M2 completely.
  4. Step 4: Boot into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Power button + Volume Down button simultaneously.
  5. Step 5: Use the Volume buttons to select "Apply update from SD card" (or "Apply update from external storage"). Press the Power button to select it, then choose the .zip file you copied. The installation will begin.


Method 2: Using QFIL (for ...RAW.zip / ...QPST.zip files)​

Use this method for all files listed in Section 2. This is for advanced users or to unbrick a dead phone.
  1. Step 1: Download and extract the QFIL tool, Qualcomm drivers, and your chosen QFIL/RAW firmware file (e.g.,

  2. Step 2: Install the Qualcomm 9008 drivers. Power off your phone completely.
  3. Step 3: Boot your phone into EDL Mode (9008). (This is often done by holding Volume Up + Volume Down and plugging in the USB cable, or by shorting test points if the phone is hard-bricked).
  4. Step 4: Open QFIL.exe. It should detect your phone as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008".
  5. Step 5: In QFIL, select "Flat Build," then browse and load the `prog_emmc_firehose.mbn`, `rawprogram0.xml`, and `patch0.xml` files from the extracted firmware folder. Click "Download" to begin flashing.
